Jammu, Sept 17: The Congress party on Tuesday ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claim of containing terrorism in the Jammu region, accusing the ruling party of misleading the public with hollow assurances.
Senior AICC leader Gurdeep Singh Sappal, while interacting with media persons, said there is a rise in terrorist attacks on civilians and security personnel in areas that were once considered peaceful. “In the recent Chhatroo attack, two soldiers of the Army were martyred. This is a glaring example of the BJP’s failure to control terrorism,” he said.
Sappal said that despite the BJP’s repeated declarations of bringing peace and security to Jammu, the region has witnessed a sharp increase in terrorist activities, killings of pilgrims and infiltration over the past couple of years.
“Jammu is no longer immune to the wave of terrorism that has traditionally plagued the Kashmir Valley. The BJP is using national security as a political tool while neglecting the safety and well-being of the people living in Jammu,” he said.
The Congress leader said the BJP’s approach to security in J&K has been ineffective and that their claims of normalcy and development in J&K are misleading. He accused the BJP of using Kashmir as a tool to reap political benefits in other parts of the country.
He said the BJP has failed to deliver on its promises of creating employment opportunities and boosting development in J&K. “Except for fake promises BJP-led government has done nothing concrete in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding, “Not even a single corporate house has invested in Jammu and Kashmir during the last five years.”
“The residents of Jammu & Kashmir are bearing the maximum brunt of the wrong policies of the BJP government at the Centre,” he said.
