Jammu, Jan 12: With all three of its candidates elected as Chairmen of the Corporation’s three  Standing Committees, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has retained its dominance over the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
Pari Kour, secretary of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, told Rising Kashmir that “the formal notice in this respect has been released today,” adding that “all three BJP candidates have been chosen unopposed as Chairmen of the three (3) Standing Committees of the Corporation.”
The BJP had fielded Gopal Gupta as its candidate for Chairman of Swacch Bharat Standing Committee, Subhash Sharma as its candidate for Chairman of Social Justice Standing Committee and Arun Kumar Khanna as the candidate for Chairman of Public Health and Sanitation Standing Committee.
All these 3 BJP candidates were today elected unopposed as Chairmen of the Standing Committees of the JMC and they also assumed their respective offices from today, the Secretary, Jammu Municipal Corporation, further said.
This is the fourth consecutive term wherein the BJP has its men as Chairmen of all the 3 Standing Committees of the JMC. The Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of the JMC are also from the BJP.
Surprisingly, neither anybody from the Congress Party nor anyone from the independents filed the nomination papers for election to elect Chairmen of the 3 Standing Committees of the Corporation.
The election, therefore, was mere a formality and as such a cake walk for the BJP.  There are nine (9) members in each Standing Committee and each will now again be headed by the BJP people. There are 75 wards in the JMC. The BJP has presently 43 corporators. The BJP had 45 corporators but due to death of one corporator and expulsion of another, the party now at present has 43 corporators in the JMC.
