Jammu, Dec 07: Chief Spokesperson BJP Mahila Morcha J&KUT Ritika Trehan on Thursday hailed the Modi government after Lok Sabha passed two important pieces of legislation regarding Jammu and Kashmir – The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, that aims to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, and The Jammu & Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, aimed at amending the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004.
In a statement issued here, Ritika said, “Earlier there were 37 seats in Jammu which have now become 43, earlier there were 46 seats in Kashmir which have now become 47, and 24 seats have been kept reserved for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. She said two Bills will bring justice to and provide rights to those against whom injustice was done, who were insulted and those who were ignored. She said that in any society, those who are deprived should be brought forward and that is the basic sense of the Constitution of India.
Ritika welcomed the decision of the government to reserve two seats in the assembly for the Kashmiri migrant community and said this will empower it politically.
The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill will nominate two members from the Kashmiri migrant community and one representing the displaced persons from PoK to the legislative assembly. “This restored the political legacy of the Kashmiri community in Kashmir Valley which was eroded earlier. It will give representation to the community in legislative setup for the first time under the reservation category,” she said.
“Both the bills will provide justice to those deprived of their rights for over 70 years. They will also bring justice to those against whom injustice was done, who were insulted and those who were ignored,” she said.
The BJP spokesperson accused the Congress party of hindering the progress of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the country.
