Jammu, Apr 22: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Vikar Rasool Wani on Monday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its failure to field a candidate in the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, saying the party feared a humiliating defeat.
Speaking at rallies in Sunderbani and later Kalakote, Wani took a swipe at the BJP for its inability to find and field a candidate, saying that they struggled to gather support even within their own ranks for the journey to Poonch-Rajouri.
Expressing gratitude to the people for the overwhelming turnout at Sunderbani and Kalakote, the Congress leader remarked that the mood of the people indicated the unfolding events. He expressed confidence in Ch Lal Singh’s victory in the seat and highlighted Congress candidate Raman Bhalla’s commitment to serving the people tirelessly.
In his address, Bhalla slammed the BJP for its detrimental policies toward the poor, predicting their defeat in the Jammu region and beyond. He urged people to safeguard democracy and the Constitution by ushering in a change of regime, warning against the BJP’s intentions to subvert the power of the vote.
Ch Lal Singh condemned the BJP’s authoritarian policies, calling on the people to demonstrate their strength and effect change before they become victims of the BJP’s “oppression”. He accused the BJP of depriving the poor of their land, jobs, rights, and livelihoods, asserting that the party has degraded and divided Jammu and Kashmir. He called on the people to unite and teach the BJP a lesson in the upcoming elections.
