Pulwama, Dec 26: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) organized a Gram Panchayat Sensitisation Programme for five blocks (Aripal, Tral, Dadsara, Pampore and Awantipora) here to educate Sarpanchs, Panchayat Secretaries and Panchayat Samiti members about BIS standards.
Around 70 participants attended the program, where files and pamphlets about BIS standards were distributed to enhance their understanding of standards in their daily lives.
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO, provided a welcome address and an overview of BIS’s role. He emphasized the importance of standards in Gram Panchayats, highlighting BIS as the country’s quality ecosystem. Dwivedi explained the role of ISI Mark in ensuring the quality, safety, and reliability of products and services, showcasing the ‘BIS Care App’ for product validation.
Mehak Rasool, BIS Resource Person, presented a detailed overview of standardization, focusing on Indian standards relevant to daily life, ISI Mark Certification, and laboratory facilities supporting certification. Participants were educated about the significance of standards in procuring quality goods for development activities and personal needs. They learned to use the BIS Care App to verify the authenticity of genuine ISI Mark and Hallmarking.
Participants shared their experiences and expressed gratitude for the enlightening workshop. They were particularly amazed to learn that they can directly raise complaints or concerns through the BIS Care App and check for the misuse of the standard mark. The program successfully equipped participants with valuable knowledge about BIS marking and its authenticity verification means.
