BIS organizes sensitization-cum-helmet awareness drive to celebrate World Standards Day 2025

Jammu, Oct 08: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), organized a Sensitization cum Helmet Awareness Drive at Bahu Plaza, North Block, Jammu on 8th October 2025 as part of the celebrations for World Standards Day (WSD) 2025.

World Standards Day is observed globally on 14th October every year to recognize the collaborative efforts of experts worldwide who develop and implement voluntary standards for the benefit of society.

In commemoration of this occasion, BIS JKBO organized a series of programs, including the Helmet Drive cum Awareness Program and Quality Walk/Run, to engage students from Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Rahya Suchani, and the Central University of Jammu.

The Helmet Awareness Drive was organized in collaboration with the J&K Traffic Police, Jammu, with the objective of creating awareness among consumers about ISI-marked products, BIS Hallmarked jewellery, and the BIS Care Mobile App.

The drive was inaugurated by Arvinder Singh Kotwal, Additional SP Traffic City, Jammu Police, and supported by his team. Kotwal appreciated the efforts of BIS for organizing such an impactful initiative and urged two-wheeler riders to use ISI-marked helmets only, emphasizing that safety should never be compromised.

During the event, BIS also felicitated the winners of the National Level Online Quiz Competition organized by BIS. Janhvi Paliwal, who secured the first position, and Madhavi Gupta, who received the consolation prize, both students of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu, were honored by Arvinder Singh, Deputy SP, Traffic Police, Jammu, for their outstanding performance and active participation.

During the drive, BIS officials sensitized two-wheeler riders and consumers about the importance of purchasing ISI-marked products and explained the features and benefits of the BIS Care App, which allows consumers to verify the authenticity of ISI and Hallmark-certified products. Students of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu, actively participated by distributing pamphlets and assisting the BIS and Traffic Police teams in spreading awareness.

On this occasion, Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS JKBO, along with Pankaj Atri, Joint Director, Hitesh Yadav, Deputy Director and Ashish Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer,  BIS-JKBO emphasized that non-ISI, sports, or miner helmets should never be used while riding two-wheelers, as only ISI-marked helmets conforming to IS 4151 provide adequate protection in case of accidents.
