Pathankot, Dec 24: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), organised the ‘Manak Manthan’ program Tuesday at Zone by The Park Hotel, Pathankot, to commemorate National Consumer Day 2024.
The program focused on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Grameen (PMAY-G) and its alignment with BIS standards to ensure quality and safety in housing for beneficiaries.
The event was graced by Sh. Yudhveer Singh, District Development Panchayat Officer (DDPO), Pathankot, as the Guest of Honour. In his inaugural address, Yudhveer Singh emphasized the importance of adhering to BIS standards in housing construction under PMAY-G to ensure durability, safety, and consumer satisfaction.
“The program began with a warm welcome and an overview of its objectives by Tilak Raj, Director and Head, BIS-JKBO. Sh. Niraj Kumar Mishra, Deputy Director, BIS-JKBO, presented an overview of BIS activities, highlighting its role in promoting consumer awareness and demonstrating the features of the BIS Care App, which helps consumers verify the authenticity of BIS-certified products,” the statement said, adding that “a detailed presentation on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Grameen (PMAY-G) was delivered by Raj Kumar, Assistant Director, BIS-JKBO. He provided insights into the scheme’s quality assurance aspects and emphasized the role of Indian Standards in constructing durable, safe, and sustainable houses under PMAY-G.”
It said that the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 150 attendees, including Sarpanches, secretaries, officials, and beneficiaries of PMAY-G. Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) from four blocks of Pathankot district—Dhar Kala, Bamial, Sujanpur, and Gharota—actively participated in the discussions.
“The program underscored the importance of incorporating BIS standards in PMAY-G housing projects and empowered the attendees with knowledge to ensure the use of quality materials and practices in construction,” the statement said, adding that “BIS remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard consumer interests and promote quality through standards. The ‘Manak Manthan’ program was yet another initiative to enhance awareness and ensure compliance with national standards in critical areas like housing.” The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard
