BIS-JKBO trains quality control personnel of packaged drinking water industry

Chandigarh: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) successfully conducted a comprehensive Two-Day Capsule Course aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of Quality Control Personnel (QCP) within the Packaged Drinking Water industry. The event took place on 14-15 December 2023 at the North Regional Office, Bureau of Indian Standards, Chandigarh.
The program saw active participation from technical professionals and proprietors representing Packaged Drinking Water industries from Kashmir, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and nearby regions.
Tilak Raj, Director of BIS JKBO, gave the welcome address and an outline of the program’s objectives. He emphasized that the primary goal of the Capsule Course was to provide a collaborative platform for QCPs and BIS to address fundamental challenges, thereby contributing to the capacity building of the industry and elevating the overall quality ecosystem of the country.
P Rajeev, Deputy Director General of the North Regional office, Bureau of Indian Standards, delivered the inaugural address. He stressed the importance of product compliance with standards and adherence to the Scheme of Inspection and Testing.
Pankaj Atri, Joint Director, and Raj Kumar, Assistant Director, JKBO, presented on Packaged Drinking Water, covering topics such as fundamental problems related to sample failure, Scheme of Inspection and Testing, renewal and inclusion guidelines, sample grouping, and Manak online features. The participants were also provided with a demonstration of the e-BIS portal, the use of the e-Portal of BIS for effective online operations of ISI Mark licenses, and the implementation of BIS Guidelines for Conformity Assessment Schemes.
The participants expressed concern about fake ISI marked products being sold in the market. They were made aware about BIS care app. Complete functionality of BIS care app was demonstrated. Consumers should ascertain the genuineness of ISI Mark on the product before purchase by visiting BIS website www.bis.gov.in or through BIS Care App. General public are, therefore, requested that in case they come across any instance of misuse of ISI mark on any product, the same may be informed to the Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, Lane No. 04, SIDCO Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu-181133 (J&K). Such complaints can also be made by email at the address [email protected] or [email protected] or by Telephone No. 0191-222690. The source of such information will be kept confidential. 
Throughout the two-day program, participants visit the BIS North Regional Laboratory in Mohali, where chemical and physical testing of Packaged Drinking Water were discussed and demonstrated. QCPs shared their practical experiences related to the manufacturing and testing of Packaged Drinking Water, actively discussing the Scheme of Inspection and Testing.
Participants expressed their appreciation for BIS’s initiative in organizing industry-specific training and commended the course’s methodology for effectively imparting both theoretical and practical knowledge on packaged drinking water.
The success of this capsule course reaffirms BIS’s commitment to promoting excellence and ensuring the highest quality standards within the Packaged Drinking Water industry.
