Jammu, Oct 08: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) inaugurated its World Standards Day 2024 celebrations with a vibrant event featuring the Manak Mahotsav and a Stakeholders Conclave at the BIS JKBO office. This marked the first of a series of events designed to raise awareness on standards, quality, and safety, with a focus on sustainable development.
Special Guest and Key Address: The event was graced by Lalit Mahajan, President of the Bari Brahmana Industrial Association (BBIA), who delivered an insightful speech, shedding light on the crucial role of BIS in supporting industries through standards and certifications. His words inspired both students and stakeholders to recognize the importance of BIS in fostering quality and reliability in various sectors.
Message from BIS JKBO Director: The Director of BIS JKBO, in his opening remarks, extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants. He emphasized the importance of engaging with younger generations and educational institutions to promote the significance of standards like the ISI mark and Hallmarking. The Director also introduced the ongoing initiatives under the World Standards Day 2024 theme, aligning with BIS’s mission of ensuring quality in every product and service.
Student Participation and Activities: Four schools – Shiksha Niketan Jammu, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sunjawan, Kendriya Vidyalaya Rahya Suchani, and Government Model Boys Higher Secondary Samba – participated in the event. The students showcased their creativity through posters on Hallmarking and the ISI mark, demonstrating their understanding of BIS standards.
Additionally, the event featured a Skit Performance where students highlighted the importance of adopting standards in everyday life. The skit delivered a powerful message on how standards ensure safety, reliability, and quality in the products we use, leaving the audience enlightened and engaged.
Quality Run and Prize Distribution: A Quality Run was organized to further reinforce the significance of standards in ensuring safety and quality in goods and services. Students enthusiastically participated, symbolizing their commitment to the cause of quality.
In recognition of their efforts, the students were awarded prizes, acknowledging their dedication and hard work in making the event a resounding success.
Looking Ahead: This event marks the beginning of the World Standards Day 2024 celebrations at BIS JKBO. In the coming days, more activities, including a Bike Rally from Srinagar to the Siachen Base Camp, are planned to spread awareness about BIS standards across remote regions. Additionally, a Quality Connect Program will be held in collaboration with colleges from Jammu, Jalandhar, and Srinagar, aiming to involve youth in promoting the importance of standards in everyday life.
BIS JKBO remains committed to fostering an environment where quality and standards become the foundation of every product and service, ensuring the well-being and safety of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
