Srinagar, Feb 5: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), in collaboration with the J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPARD), successfully conducted its first-ever training program on standardisation for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) principals and superintendents from the Kashmir.
The landmark program, held at the IMPARD Institute in Srinagar, marked a significant step toward capacity building and promoting awareness of standardisation practices in technical and educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
Pankaj Atri, Joint Director of BIS-JKBO, delivered an insightful session, offering an overview of BIS as the National Standards Body. He elaborated on the standard formulation process, the integration of BIS standards into educational curricula, and the importance of active participation in standard formulation activities. His detailed presentation highlighted key BIS initiatives, including the “Know Your Standards” feature, the Hallmarking Scheme, and the BIS Care App, designed to enhance consumer awareness and engagement.
Emphasising the role of consumer protection, Atri discussed various BIS initiatives aimed at strengthening stakeholder involvement at the grassroots level. He highlighted how such collaborations contribute to the technical upgradation of national standards and expand their reach among end-users. Dr. Khurshid, Associate Professor at IMPARD, welcomed the initiative, lauding BIS for its efforts in fostering collaboration with educational institutions. He shared his insights on the significance of standardization training in enhancing the quality of technical education and its long-term impact on industry and governance. This pioneering training program reflects BIS’s commitment to capacity building, quality enhancement, and the promotion of standardization across Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for future collaborations with academic and technical institutions in the Valley.
