BIS holds Sensitisation Workshop in Srinagar

With a view to promote Quality Consciousness and awareness among officials and other stakeholders of Srinagar, an Awareness cum Sensitization Workshop was today organised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) at Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex, here.

The Workshop was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Addressing the workshop, the Chief Guest appreciated the BIS JKBO for organizing Awareness cum Sensitization Workshop on BIS standardization to sensitise District Heads, Sectoral Officers and their stakeholders.

The DC assured the Officers of BIS JKBO all cooperation from the District Administration in implementation of BIS Standards. He also emphasized that BIS should suo-moto monitor the compliances of ISI marked products by conducting periodic inspections and market surveillance to increase customers confidence on ISI Mark.

He stressed the Officers to maintain BIS standardization on every day to day consumables and essential items to ensure Consumer welfare and Safety of Consumer Rights. He also emphasised on Qualitative improvement in the implementation of Government Programmes/schemes and protecting the interest of the consumers by promoting greater use of BIS Standards.

He also emphasised on citizen participation in ensuring the BIS standards which in turn will help citizen gain confidence on quality of products and processes.

The DC further said that BIS is the quality ecosystem and caters to the needs of end users through Conformity Assessment Schemes which are based on the quality, safety and performance parameters laid down in Indian standards. He said that ISI Mark is a mean for providing third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products and services to the customer.

On the occasion, a detailed PowerPoint presentation on Standards Formulation, Product Certification, information about Indian Standards, BIS licences, products under compulsory ISI mark, Laboratory facilities, Hallmarking and Compulsory Registration Scheme was given by Joint Director BIS, JKBO, Pankaj Atri.

He also demonstrated the BIS Care App through examples to check authenticity of ISI marked products and Hallmarked jewellery and complaints can also be registered.

While Director BIS, JKBO Tilak Raj also highlighted the initiatives of the BIS in bringing quality products to the customers. He said that the aim and objective of the programme was to inform the Heads of Departments in the District about the Quality checks of the standard products and laws to control the substandard products in the market. He also gave awareness to the gathering about ISI and Hallmark.

Besides, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Haneef Balkhi the workshop was attended by all District/ Sectoral Officers and other concerned.
