BIS carries out search, seizure operations at 4 places in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 07: Team of officers of Jammu and Kashmir Branch office of Bureau of Indian Standards along with officers from Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology Department carried out search and seizure at 4 different Locations in Kashmir Valley.
1st Team Led by Pankaj Atri Joint Director BIS JKBO along with Md Muzaffar Wani from Legal Metrology Dept carried Out Search & seizure at the premises of Diamond Grinding Media Industry Firm was found to be Violating QCO. Huge quantity of Iron Ingots has been seized.
2nd team led by Niraj Mishra, Deputy Director BIS along with Md Yusuf from Dept of FCS & CA has carried out Search & seizure at the Premise of Bala Jewelers, Downtown Srinagar. Jewellery without BIS Hallmark has been seized.
3rd team led by Hitesh Yadav, Deputy Director BIS along with Mr Tajamul Yusuf from Dept of FCS & CA has carried out Search & seizure in Hari Singh High Street Srinagar.
4th team led by Raj Kumar, Assistant Director BIS along with Mr Mudasir Rashid from Legal Metrology Dept has carried out Search & seizure at the Premise of Kashmir Glass, Khonmoh. Firm was found to be Violating QCO. Huge quantity of Iron toughened Glass has been seized.
Action is being initiated by BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office against the offenders under the Bureau of Indian Standard Act, 2016. The offense is violation of section 11, 14(6) or 14(8), 15, 17 of BIS Act, 2016 and is punishable with imprisonment up to 1 years or a fine not less than Rs. 1 Lakh or both as per Section 29(2) of BIS Act, 2016. Prosecution under provisions of BIS Act shall be launched in the competent court of law.
It has been observed many a time that fake ISI marked and Hallmarked products are manufactured and sold to common consumers for huge profit. Therefore, people should ascertain the genuineness of Standards Mark on the product before purchase by visiting BIS website http:www.bis.gov.in or through BIS Care App.
General public are, therefore, requested that in case they come across any instance of misuse of Standards mark on any product, the same may be informed to the Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, Lane No. 04, SIDCO Industrial Complex, Bari Brahmana, Jammu-181133 (J&K). Such complaints can also be made by email at the address [email protected] or [email protected] or by Telephone No. 01923-222690. The source of such information will be kept confidential.
