Anantnag, Jan 09: Death of 40-year-old woman from Bijbehara area of Anantnag district has triggered protest at Maternity and Child Care hospital (MCCH) in the district as family alleged medical negligence.
The family members of Shabnum Farooq (40), a resident of Bijbehara Anantnag, said she was admitted to MCCH and had to undergo surgery.
They said that she was given an injection which caused reaction. “We brought it to their notice before the surgery that the patient develops a reaction to the injections and despite that, they took the patient as prescribed the injection which led to the death of Shabnum,” Shabnum’s family members said.
However doctors dismiss the claim and say, a test dose developed a massive reaction and resulted in the woman’s death.
Dr Tanzeela in charge of the hospital, said this was one of the rarest cases in which the patient had a massive reaction to the test dose.
“She didn’t get the whole vile injection, but it was a test dose, and it is very rare that a patient suddenly collapses,” she said.
According to a routine before we shift the patient to the theatre we summarize the history of the patient and it was learned she is allergic to injections and she was prescribed a test dose which likely has developed a massive reaction, she said.
She further said that the incident will be investigated. “If anyone is found involved in negligence, action will be taken against the erring person,” she added.
