In a significant administrative shift, the Centre on Wednesday announced the appointment of Bihar Director General of Police Rajwinder Singh Bhatti as the new Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Daljit Singh Chaudhary as the new chief of the Border Security Force (BSF).

The 1990-batch Bhopal cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Bhatti has been appointed to the post of Director General of CISF from the date of assumption of charge of the post for a tenure up to the date of his superannuation on September 30, 2025 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Bhatti, who had earned fame for ensuring the arrest of the then strongman and former Siwan MP Md Shahabuddin in November, 2005, was appointed as the DGP of Bihar in December 2022.

Known as a hard task master and no-nonsense police officer, Bhatti worked as ADG (East Command of Seema Suraksha Bal, prior to his appointment as Bihar DGP.

Commonly known as RS Bhatti, he served as the director general of Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), which was earlier known as BMP, before going on the central deputation.

Native of Punjab, Bhatti came to Patna after he was allotted Bihar cadre. In Bihar, he worked in various capacities. Apart from serving as the City SP of Patna, he also worked as assistant superintendent of police (Barh), SP in Jehanabad, Gopalganj, Purnia, DIG (Siwan), IG (Patna zone), IG (security), joint director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), director general (civil aviation).

Bhatti earned national fame after he meticulously planned and ensured the arrest of Shahabuddin from his Delhi residence in November 2005. Earlier, no police officer dared to arrest the RJD strongman because of his strong political clout. While serving as the ASP of Barh, Bhatti had arrested the then RJD legislator and strongman Dilip Kumar Singh from his Patna residence. Dilip, who also served as a minister during the Lalu Prasad regime, was the elder brother of Makama strongman and former MLA Anant Kumar Singh.

However, Daljit Singh Chauhary, a 1990-batch IPS, who is currently serving as the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), has been appointed to lead the BSF. Chauhary’s tenure as Director General of the BSF will extend until November 30, 2025, when he too will reach the end of his service. (ANI)
