Jammu, Oct 02: JKPCC President VikarRasoolWani and JKPCC working-president Raman Bhalla in a function held Sunday at SatwariChowk paid rich tributes to the great leader and father of nation Mahatma Gandhi.
The programme was organized by Congress Sewa Dal J&K Chairman Vijay Sharma Babbi.
According to a statement, a large number of party workers assembled at SatwariChowk and garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi here today and paid floral tributes to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and also former Prime Minister LalBahadurShastri. The function was attended by prominent leaders of PCC, DCC and frontal organizations. Similar functions are organized at all the district headquarters of J&K.
JKPCC President paying his tributes to the father of nation, said that Congress is committed to unite India in the same manner as the father of the nation had united the country against injustice.
“Bapu taught us to walk on the path of truth and non-violence. He explained the meaning of love, compassion, harmony and humanity,” he said.
He said, “Bapu is an example of truth. Bapu is the torch of courage. Bapu is a Bharat Yatri sharing the sufferings of the people of the country and uniting the whole of India.”
“Today we are walking on the path shown by Bapu with the slogan of ‘Bharat Jodo’ and with determination and the torch of unity in hand,” he said.
His vision, his principles, his ideals laid the foundation of India.” “As we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, let us pledge to dedicate ourselves to the cause of peace and non-violence,” Wani said.
Wani also paid tributes to freedom fighter and leader of the masses, LalBahadurShastri. “A true nation builder, his slogan, ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan’, instilled a pride in the Indians for the blood & sweat of our soldiers and farmers dedicated to the nation,” he said in his tribute to the former Prime Minister. “One trait that both Gandhiji and Shastriji had in common was absolute resolve which continues to inspire us,” he said.
He said the party will follow the ideology and principles of Mahatma Gandhi and LalBahadurShastri in its roadmap ahead. “Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister LalBahadurShastri always adopted the path of truth, non-violence and simplicity. Both the great leaders gave their contribution in making of India. We will follow their ideology in our roadmap ahead,” he said.
Wani said when the sub-continent was burning with human killings, loot, arson and forced migration of people to and fro to India and Pakistan, Mahatma described the peace, unity and amity in Kashmir valley as the light from Banihal tunnel for future of the sub-continent. Mahatma Gandhi and LalBahadurShastri were among shining jewels in the Indian leadership who were born in India and left a great history and message for the coming generations. He said Gandhi Ji, a recognizable figure of the twentieth century propagated and envisaged an idea of India with equal opportunities for all.
Bhalla in his tributes on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and ShastriJayanti said that our leader Rahul Gandhi is walking from Kanyakumari to Kashmir with his “Bharat JodoYatra.”
“This yatra is to unite India as per the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. We should support the Yatra to ensure India remains one,” he said. “Mahatma Gandhi and LalBahadurShastri dedicated their lives to help and uplift the downtrodden. We must come together and fight for the rights of the poor. This will be the real tribute to the great leaders,” he said.
He recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to the struggle for the achievement of freedom from the colonial yoke, his sustained campaign against social injustice, racism and suppression of the under-privileged sections and his unending pursuit for establishment of a truly secular and harmonious society.
