Pulwama, July 15: An elderly man was mauled to death by a wild bear in the Babseer village of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday
The deceased has been identified as Nazim Din Kalukhel, a resident of Babseer Razdoor.
According to wildlife officials, the attack occurred while Nazim was grazing sheep in a forest area about half a kilometre from his home.
Locals reported that Nazim raised an alarm during the attack, prompting people to rush to his aid.
Despite their efforts, the bear inflicted grievous injuries on Nazim, causing him to succumb on the spot.
Following the incident, a team from the wildlife department’s Range Khrew unit quickly arrived at the scene to ensure the safety of the villagers and to address the immediate threat posed by the bear.
