Baramulla, Oct 15: Rameez Ahmad Sudhan, an educator at a government school in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship by the US Department of State for 2023, thereby bringing laurels to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rameez is one of six Indians who have been chosen after a tough application process, and he is the only fellow from Kashmir in the category.
An inhabitant of the Boniyar neighbourhood of Uri in Baramulla, Sudhan is currently employed with the Khanpora government school.
“The program will begin in January 2023 in a US University with first orientation in Washington DC. From there the cohort of two will set for ever enriching journey,” Sudhan said.
Rameez has continued to be involved in the community by bringing a positive and progressive change with his ideas, energy, and passion.
He credited his family and friends for this feat and added, “The Fulbright is a watershed moment for me to realise the objective of personal growth and professional development.”
In its communication, the Fulbright Commission has congratulated Rameez for selection for a Fulbright award to the United States.
The Fulbright Commission Communication reads that on behalf of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, “I am pleased to congratulate you on your selection for a Fulbright award to the United States. Your grant is a reflection of your leadership and contributions to society.”

Fulbright alumni have become heads of state, judges, ambassadors, cabinet ministers, CEOs, and university presidents, as well as leading journalists, artists, scientists, and teachers. They include 60 Nobel Laureates, 86 Pulitzer Prize winners, 75 MacArthur Fellows, and thousands of leaders across the private, public and non-profit sectors.
The communication further reads, “We also hope you will engage in your local
community while on your Fulbright exchange. In so doing, you will exemplify the qualities of service, leadership, and excellence that have been hallmarks of this Program for over 75 years.”
While talking to Rising Kashmir, Rameez Sudhan said that experience in the US as a Fulbright fellow will stay with him for life.

In a message to the youth and students of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Rameez said he has always believed in collective efforts and individual intelligence.
“Our youth has acumen to set high goals and achieve them too. Wherever you remain, stay rooted to your core values,” Rameez added.
