Bandipora, Dec 31: The demand for expansion and highway status of Srinagar-Gurez Road is growing among the residents of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district day by day.
During a recent Public Darbar in Bandipora, chaired by Secretary Hospitality and Protocol Department Talat Parvez, many delegations emphasized the necessity of widening the road for better connectivity.
They requested Secretary Talat Parvez to communicate their plea to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, seeking intervention for National Highway status.
Locals while mentioning the track record of Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari in funding road upgrades said that with LG Manoj Sinha’s support, their long-standing demand could be met.
A youth delegation, led by Mehran Sofi and Yasir Peerzada also echoed the call for upgrading Srinagar-Bandipora-Gurez to National Highway status.
Residents while highlighting the district’s potential as a tourist destination, with attractions like Wular, Gurez, Authwatoo, Ketson, and Sirander said that the lack of a proper highway hinders progress of district and affects both tourists and locals.
Meanwhile, a top official from District Administration Bandipora told Rising Kashmir that they have submitted the comprehensive proposal for highway status of Sumbal-Bandipora-Gurez Road to the government and expressed optimism regarding its consideration and sanction.
