Srinagar, May 25: In response to growing concerns about the state of Badamwari Garden, a dedicated cleanliness drive was held on Saturday, spearheaded by local stakeholders and community volunteers. The event emphasized the urgent need for sustained efforts to maintain this historic site, which has suffered from neglect and disrepair.
Participants in the drive, expressing their commitment to the cause, highlighted the importance of social responsibility in preserving natural heritage. “Today’s cleanliness drive is just the beginning. We did it with all heart and happiness. Our message is loud and clear—the job is not yet done. We all have to come together to address the dilapidated condition of Badamwari,” said a volunteer organizer.
J&K Bank’s previous efforts to maintain and promote Badamwari have been widely appreciated, leading to increased visitor footfalls and generating significant revenue for the government. However, concerns have been raised about the current state of the garden, including issues such as stray dogs, untidy lawns, unclean toilets, and vandalized garbage bins.
Local residents and visitors alike have noted the proliferation of wild grass, unkempt lawns, and insufficient manpower to manage the garden. The lack of maintenance has led to a decline in the garden’s appearance, with many questioning when the lawns were last mowed and pointing out broken latches and taps in the public restrooms.
“The responsibilities and accountabilities need to be fixed at the earliest,” urged one concerned citizen. The call for action was clear: stakeholders and authorities must collaborate to address these pressing concerns and prevent Badamwari from turning into a neglected dumping ground.
The cleanliness drive served as a reminder of the community’s connection to Badamwari, which is seen not just as a garden but as a repository of fond memories and cultural heritage. “Badamwari is our asset, our heritage. Let’s pledge to preserve and protect it at any cost,” urged the organizers.
As the community looks ahead, there is hope that today’s efforts will spark ongoing initiatives to restore and maintain Badamwari, ensuring it remains a cherished landmark for generations to come.
