Jammu, Aug 15: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday greeted the people on 77th Independence Day and hoisted the flag at his residence in New Delhi, while General Secretary R S Chib hoisted the national flag at provincial headquarters Jammu and provincial president Kashmir Mohd Amin Bhatt hoisted the flag in Srinagar.
Azad in a statement said, “It was a moment of joy and we the people of India must remember the sacrifices of our predecessors against a foreign rule. While we celebrate Independence Day today, we shall equally be thankful to all those who fought for it and ensures coming generations are living in free and peaceful India.”
The DPAP chief said every Indian is proud of the country and its democratic values that ensure respect and freedom to every of its citizen. He said in the last 77 years of freedom, India achieved what most of the countries in the world are still desiring. “We are the world’s second-largest democracy and the fastest-growing economy. We are all proud of it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman GM Saroori, General Secretary R S Chib, Provincial President Jammu Jugal Kishore Sharma, Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami, General Secretary Anita Thakur and many other leaders also attended the I-day celebration function in R S Pura.
Later, the leaders visited the International Border and celebrated Independence Day with BSF Jawans and exchanged sweets. “Today, we feel free and secure only because these Jawans are standing guard at our borders. When they are awake, we can sleep peacefully,” Chib said.
Another I-day celebration programme was organized by Zonal President Ch Gharu Ram in R S Pura which was attended by a large number of people. Provincial Vice President Ashok Sharma also attended the event.
