‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’: LG Sinha pays tribute to Kargil war heroes

Srinagar, July 21: Lieutenant Governor ManojSinha dedicated this month’s edition of the ‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’ programme to the heroes of the Kargil War, paying tribute to their courage and sacrifice.
“Kargil Vijay Diwas is the saga of magnificent heroism, indomitable courage, and the spirit of supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. I pay homage to the martyrs and express my gratitude towards valiant soldiers for keeping the nation safe on the road to progress,” the Lt Governor said.
He recalled the valor and supreme sacrifice of soldiers from Jammu, including Maj Ajay Singh Jasrotia, Sub Bahadur Singh, and HavMadanLal; Kathua’s Sep Rajinder Singh; Sopore’sLNkGhulam Mohammed Khan; Kupwara’sRavinder Singh and Mohammad Khan, among countless others.
“Let us bow our heads in gratitude for those valiant jawans and officers of J&K who fought bravely in the inhospitable terrain and conquered the enemy. Their bravery will forever live on in our hearts and inspire us,” the Lt Governor added.
Meanwhile, sharing stories of changemakers, the Lt Governor commended Ganderbal’s Bilal Bhatt for his selfless service and awareness campaign on vital issues at the grassroots level. Bhatt is seen as a beacon of hope and an agent of change by the community.
The Keegam Youth Trust, an initiative by 180 youngsters from Shopian, was appreciated for transforming SwachhAbhiyan into a Jan Abhiyan, garnering unprecedented community support.
Sandeep Singh Chib of Ramban received special mention for his mission to nurture promising boxers and inspire youth to chase their dreams. The Lt Governor extended best wishes to ShariqYasir of Kulgam, a rising star in J&K’s sporting arena.
Srinagar’s first female e-rickshaw driver, Kounsar Jan, was lauded for breaking barriers and inspiring others to pursue their dreams. Anita Devi from Rajouri was recognized for leading an all-women self-help group, encouraging women-related enterprises.
RubinaBano of Pulwama was highlighted for reshaping the entrepreneurial landscape in the dairy sector, generating buzz among entrepreneurs. Young librarian ShahidaKhaliq from Kupwara was praised for her dedication to empowering the youth through education.
The Lt Governor also acknowledged the environmental conservation efforts of Retired Havildar Raj Kumar from Reasi and the training initiatives for rural women by Kashmir’s Sabzar Ahmed and Syed Nadeem.
Valuable suggestions were received from Jammu’s Ishtiaq Ahmed and Kulgam’sIdrees Ahmed; Shabnam Singh from Kathua; Rayees Ahmad Bhat from Anantnag; and Kathua’sRadhikaMahajan. Their proposals on waste management, anti-drug committees, and women’s empowerment through digital activism were noted.
Colonel B.D. Sharma from Jammu and Inspector Sohan Singh from Udhampur provided strategies to promote literature on war heroes, assuring necessary intervention from the Lt Governor.
The Lt Governor’s dedication of the ‘Awaam Ki Awaaz’ programme to Kargil War Heroes underscores the importance of remembering their sacrifices while also highlighting the contributions of local changemakers and community leaders in Jammu and Kashmir.
