Srinagar, Feb 22: The J&K Drug Control Department seized a consignment containing 190 strips of the psychotropic drug Tapentadol at Srinagar International Airport with an estimated value of approximately Rs 66,500, officials said on Thursday.
Joint Drugs Controller J&K, Irfana Ahmad said they received information inside the Srinagar Airport regarding a suspicious parcel following which a team of officials was sent to investigate the matter.
Acting on intelligence, the Drug Control Department in collaboration with the Sales Tax Central Enforcement Airport Wing and with active support from DTDC Express Courier firm, seized a consignment containing 190 strips of the psychotropic drug Tapentadol, she said, adding that the same was seized at the Cargo Terminal of Srinagar International Airport on February 21 and the estimated street value of the seized drug is approximately Rs 66,500.
“The Department of Drug Control has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse,” the Joint Drugs Controller said. She said the operation demonstrates the unwavering commitment to curbing the illegal trade of such harmful substances within their jurisdiction.
“The origin and intended destination of the consignment are currently under investigation. Authorities are working diligently to trace the source and identify those involved in this illegal activity,” Irfana said.
Such coordinated action is crucial in combating the menace of drug trafficking and protecting the communities, she said. “The investigation into this case is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available. The case will be taken to its logical end as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940,” she added.
