Srinagar, Aug 05: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Monday said the unilateral and “undemocratic” decisions made by the Modi government on August 05, 2019, have failed to achieve their intended purpose.
“On the 5th anniversary of the unilateral and undemocratic decisions of August 05, 2019, the government has once again unjustly placed party leaders under illegal house arrest, effectively isolating the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha in Srinagar,” he said in a statement issued here.
“This blatant suppression of mainstream democratic activities only serves to showcase the administration’s underlying fear and exposes the hollowness of their claims of progress over the past five years. August 05, 2019, remains a stark reminder of the disempowerment of the people of J&K, a process that continues unchecked with the absence of a democratically elected government in the region,” Sagar added.
The NC leader said the decisions made on August 5, 2019, are a “betrayal of the promises” made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by New Delhi. “These decisions are unacceptable to the people of J&K, as demonstrated by the recent parliamentary election results in the region,” he said.
As far as JKNC is concerned, we will persist in our fight for the restoration of our abridged rights through democratic, legal and peaceful means, Sagar said, adding, “The unjust actions of the government will not deter us from our mission to uphold the rights and freedoms of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Among others Additional General Secretaries Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Ajay Sadhotra, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Provincial Presidents Nasir Aslam Wani, Rattan Lal Gupta; Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Senior leaders Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Shafi Uri, Abdul Rahim Rather, Mubarak Gul, Shameema Firdous, Sakina Itoo, Party MPs Mian Altaf Ahmad, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi also denounced the alleged house arrest of the party leaders and isolating the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha.
