Srinagar, March 25: On this year’s theme “Yes! We can end TB!”, the students including Paramedical, B. Sc. Nursing, GNM & ANM of Aryans Institute of Nursing, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh participated in various activities organized on World Tuberculosis Day.
On the occasion, the students visited Community Health Centre, Kalomajra. Dr. Deepshikha, Community Health Officer & Dr. Maninder Kaur, Senior Medical Officer addressed the students on this global epidemic.
Dr. Deepshikha said that tuberculosis is a deadly infection caused by a bacterium that primarily affects the lungs and is easily transmitted by small droplets expelled into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Dr Maninder highlighted this year’s theme which emphasizes the importance of quick action, and rapid and innovative adoption to eradicate tuberculosis.
To raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis, and to step up efforts to end the global tuberculosis epidemic students interacted with villagers and participated in Health Talk, Skit on Dot awareness & Poster Presentations, etc. Dr. Rakesh Kumar and Mrs. Daljeet Kaur, Block Education Educator were also present.
It is to be mentioned that World Tuberculosis Day, observed on March 24 each year, is designed to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate the disease. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced he had discovered the bacterium that causes tuberculosis.
