Budgam, Nov 16: PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that Article 370 represents a deeply emotional matter for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
She urged the National Conference and Congress to clarify their positions regarding the resolution on Article 370 that has been passed into the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Mehbooba Mufti, accompanied by senior party officials visited Gundipora village to express condolences to the PDP leader in the area.
Speaking to the reporters, Mehbooba Mufti remarked that the National Conference Government has received a mandate from the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the recent assembly elections. She noted that voters had specific expectations from the National Conference.
“The issue of Article 370 is deeply significant to the people of Jammu and Kashmir; their concerns and expectations are tied to this article. The National Conference and Congress Governments must clarify their positions regarding the resolution of Article 370 that was passed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly,” she said.
Mehbooba further indicated that the MLAs from the PDP have voiced their concerns about the resolution passed in the Assembly, emphasizing that it should have prominently addressed Article 370.
“The government, which holds more than 50 MLAs in the Assembly, should have openly raised the issue of Article 370 and condemned the decision made by the Government of India on August 5, 2019, which they failed to do in the Assembly,” PDP President said.
Mehbooba Mufti expressed that the manner in which the Article 370 issue was addressed in the Assembly was disappointing and indicative of a surrender at that moment.
“The statement from the Congress party, which suggested that the resolution passed in the Assembly was intended for statehood rather than addressing Article 370, has raised questions in the minds of the people of Jammu and Kashmir .The government must address the confusion that has arisen, ” she added.
