JAMMU, July 08: In the face of adverse weather conditions, the Indian Army has once again stepped forward to aid Amarnath pilgrims who found themselves stranded at various locations due to the temporary suspension of the holy pilgrimage. Offering a range of crucial assistance including shelter, warm clothing, medical aid, and tentage facilities, the Army has successfully provided aid to a total of 5,032 yatris.
Over the past few days, inclement weather conditions had compelled the suspension of the Amarnath yatra, leaving 253 pilgrims stranded en route.
Responding swiftly to the situation, the Army efficiently evacuated these stranded individuals, ensuring their safety at the Barari Marg Camp, as confirmed by Defence PRO, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
To alleviate the plight of the stranded yatris, the Army promptly extended tentage facilities to 3,650 pilgrims hailing from different parts of the country at Panjtarni and Nunwan. Additionally, 279 pilgrims were provided with food and warm clothing to endure the harsh weather conditions at the Barari Marg and Chandanwari camps, which were established by the Army, stated the Defence PRO.
Recognizing the need for medical assistance, the Army has also offered aid to 850 yatris in the past two days at various camps along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. This timely and comprehensive support from the Indian Army is a testament to their commitment to ensuring the safety of the pilgrims throughout the journey.
The Army’s efforts are part of a coordinated operation involving multiple stakeholders, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), National Disaster Response Force Headquarters (NDRFHQ), Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), and the Department of Information and Public Relations of Jammu and Kashmir (DIPR-JK). Working round the clock, the Army remains steadfast in its mission to facilitate a secure pilgrimage experience for all yatris.
As the inclement weather continues to pose challenges, the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication and collaborative approach serve as a beacon of hope for the stranded Amarnath pilgrims, ensuring their well-being and a safe return to their homes.
