Srinagar, Sep 24: Sensing suspicious activity at the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu region, the army on Sunday shot at a person ,suspected to be a narcotics smuggler.
The officials revealed that the accused sustained injuries and was later hospitalized for treatment.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that the army observed unusual activity in the forward restricted area of the LoC in the Khari Karmara sector, prompting them to take action.
“In response to the suspicious movement, the army fired shots, causing injuries to the person. Following the incident, the army conducted thorough searches in the area and subsequently rescued the injured individual. He was promptly transported to the civil hospital in Poonch,” they stated.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Poonch, Deepak Pathania, identified the injured smuggler as Yasir Nazir, a resident of Khari Karmara. Nazir was then transferred to GMC Rajouri for further medical treatment.
“Additional investigations into the matter are currently underway,” he said.
