Srinagar, Oct 26: One Army soldier was injured on Wednesday during an ongoing encounter between terrorists and security forces in Wanseeran Taripora village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir said that Armyman suffered minor injuries during the initial exchange of firing in Sultanpora encounter
“During the initial firing, Armyman received gunshot injuries. He was shifted to 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment. He is stable and out of danger,” he said.
The officer said gunfight broke out after the Special Operations Group of police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in Sultanpora area.
As per police search parties were zeroing in near the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
“People living around the site of an encounter are being evacuated from the spot,” he said.
“We have cordoned the area and all roads leading to encounter site have been sealed,” he said.
In case, if the encounter will be called off following darkness, all SOPs will be followed including the installation of lights,” the officer said.
The police officer said one foreign terrorist is believed to be trapped inside the target house. Searches will continue till fresh contact is established.
“The exchange of fire is going on and further details are awaited,” he said.
Earlier in a tweet, Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, that “Encounter has started at Wanseeran Taripora area of #Baramulla. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. (Sic).”
