Srinagar, Nov 21: The Chinar Corps Commander on Tuesday inaugurated a Community Radio Station (CRS) and the Chinar Naujawan Club at Trehgam in the Handwara area of north Kashmir.
“The CRS serves as a crucial platform for local engagement, providing a voice to the community and fostering communication. It aims to share information, promote cultural diversity, and empower individuals to discuss issues relevant to their locality,” PRO Defence said in a statement, adding, “These stations offer space for grassroots initiatives, showcasing local talent, and featuring community-driven content.”
Notably, three more such CRSs are already operational across Kashmir.
During the inauguration, the Chinar Corps Commander also laid the foundation for the Naujawan Club, a comprehensive facility that will include vocational training centres, an education hub, a Kashmiri cultural centre, Barkat Bistro bakery, and sports infrastructure.
He presented cooperative society cert rendered by registrar co-operative societies, J&K to Flag Women of Kupwara and inaugurated an online portal for the same. “This initiative was started by local women of Kupwara and supported by the Indian Army. The initiative which started with stitching of national flags has now taken the shape of a blooming business providing employment opportunities to the local women,” the statement said.
On the occasion, GOC, Vajra Division, Commander Hajipir Brigade, DC Kupwara and important personalities of civil administration Kupwara were also present.
