JAMMU, Nov 23: In a significant development, the security forces successfully recovered the largest-ever haul of arms and ammunition, including war stores, dropped by a quadcopter from across the border in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region.
The joint operation, conducted by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), unfolded in the early hours of Thursday.
The operation was launched in response to specific intelligence inputs received from troops deployed in forward areas. “Based on the inputs, a joint search operation was initiated near Laukikhad bridge in Akhnoor. At around 7 am, a package along with a dropping string was recovered,” informed Suneel Bartwal, PRO Defence, speaking to Rising Kashmir.
Describing it as the largest-ever haul of quadcopter-dropped war-like stores in the Akhnoor sector, the Defence PRO emphasised its potential to revive terrorism in Rajouri and Akhnoor sectors.
The recovered items include one Turkey-made pistol with two magazines, nine grenades, 38 live rounds, and one battery-operated improvised explosive device (IED). The Army has expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance in the region.
