Army Commander reviews counter-terrorism preparedness in Udhampur

Srinagar: Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Army Commander of the Northern Command, visited Basantgarh in Udhampur district on Wednesday to review the counter-terrorism grid and assess the operational preparedness of Army units deployed in the area, officials said. During the visit, the Army Commander conducted a comprehensive review of the prevailing security situation and was briefed by formation and unit commanders on the ground. “The briefing covered recent operational inputs, deployment posture, and measures being undertaken to effectively counter terrorist threats and maintain a robust security environment in the region.” Lt Gen Sharma interacted extensively with officers and troops, discussing ground realities and operational challenges. “Deliberations during the visit focused on further strengthening the counter-terrorism grid, enhancing surveillance and intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and ensuring seamless coordination with other security agencies and civil administration to respond swiftly to emerging threats.” The Army Commander emphasised the importance of maintaining a high state of operational readiness, particularly in view of the evolving security scenario. He underscored the need for proactive domination of sensitive areas, effective use of technology, and close synergy among all stakeholders to deny space to terrorist elements. Lt Gen Sharma commended the troops for their unwavering determination, professionalism, and commitment to sustaining peace and stability in the region despite challenging terrain and weather conditions. He expressed confidence in the units' ability to continue performing their duties with the same level of dedication and vigilance. The visit, officials said, was part of the Northern Command’s ongoing efforts to regularly assess ground-level preparedness and review security arrangements in sensitive areas to ensure peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
