Jammu, Sept 07: Security forces in Poonch, made a significant recovery of arms and ammunition following the elimination of two terrorists attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory on Wednesday.
According to Suneel Bartwal, the PRO Defence based in Jammu, Pakistani-made medicines and various food items such as apples, dates, salt, namkeen, almonds, biscuits, ready-to-eat (RTE) food, paranthas, chutney, and more were recovered by the security forces along with war-like stores.
The infiltrators were also found in possession of night vision devices, wire cutters, walking sticks, medical supplies, rain jackets, ropes, blank diaries, batteries, and knives.
The cache included one K-47 rifle, four AK-47 magazines, one pistol, two pistol magazines, 44 rounds of pistol ammunition, one grenade, one binocular, one night vision device, one pair of shoes, two trousers, one pair of gloves, two jackets, one wind cheater, two shawls, two mufflers, six pairs of socks, one knee cap, two rucksack bags, two walking sticks, one syringe, 16 batteries, one watch, two wire cutters, one small knife, two lighters, six bandages, one roll of medical tape, one water purifier tablet, one box of eight medicine sachets, one rain jacket, two needle injections, two blank diaries, and one bundle of rope and material.
Two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces while they were trying to infiltrate into the Indian side from across the border in Mani Sub Sector of Poonch District in Jammu region on Wednesday. The body of one terrorist was recovered, while the search for the body of the second terrorist has been going on in the dense forests and hostile terrain, Suneel Bartwal told Rising Kashmir.
On the intervening night of September 05 and 06, two terrorists were observed crossing the Line of Control (LoC) in Mandi Sub Sector of Poonch.
The Army and the JKP immediately launched a joint operation to intercept the terrorists. Heavy exchange of fire started from both sides after the terrorists were challenged by the security forces.
