Srinagar, Feb 24: The Apni Party is gearing up to field candidates in all five Parliamentary constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, its president Altaf Bukhari said on Saturday. The polls for the Lok Sabha are expected to take place in April and May this year.
“Since its inception, Apni Party has been dedicated to alleviating the hardships faced by the people of the region. We are optimistic that the people across Jammu and Kashmir will extend their support and vote for us in the upcoming Parliamentary elections,” Bukhari told KNS.
He confirmed that the party will nominate candidates for all five Parliamentary constituencies in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. “Yes, we are prepared to contest the Parliamentary polls. We will be putting forth candidates in all five constituencies,” he said.
However, the Apni Party chief said the announcement of candidates would be made public following the visit of the Election Commission of India to Jammu and Kashmir. “The candidate list has been finalized and will be disclosed after the Election Commission of India’s visit to Jammu & Kashmir,” he asserted.
“Let the Election Commission of India conclude its visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The purpose of the visit is to evaluate the security and administrative situation ahead of the LS polls. There is a possibility that the ECI may opt for simultaneous Parliamentary and Assembly polls. Therefore, the Apni Party will unveil the candidate list once the ECI completes its visit,” Bukhari added.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled a comprehensive review to assess the feasibility of simultaneously conducting Assembly elections alongside Parliamentary polls in Jammu and Kashmir during its two-day visit to the Union Territory on March 12 and 13. (KNS)
