Srinagar, Sept 16: Following the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) announcement regarding the submission of examination forms for classes 10, 11, and 12 for the annual regular examinations 2025, students have appealed to the government to reduce the syllabus for their upcoming exams. The students said they have only completed approximately 60 per cent of the curriculum in schools due to recent disruptions. Lubna Jab, a 10th-grade student from Budgam district, told Rising Kashmir that the shift in the academic session from March to November has severely impacted their syllabus coverage. "In the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, schools have been closed due to a war-like situation, summer vaccination breaks, flooding, and government holidays. How is it possible for students to cover 100 per cent of the syllabus in such a short period? If JKBOSE has asked students to submit their examination forms, then they should also consider reducing the syllabus by 40 per cent across all classes," she said. Zahoor Ahmad, a 12th-grade student, expressed concern over the limited timeframe. "JKBOSE announced our results in May 2025, and classes resumed in June 2025. How can students complete the entire syllabus in just a few months? The school education department must consider students' futures and reduce the syllabus for the upcoming exams scheduled within two months," he said. He added, "We students from 10th, 11th, and 12th grades are not opposed to JKBOSE holding examinations. In fact, we welcome the government’s decision to revert the admission session from March to November. However, we request a 40 per cent reduction in syllabus and earlier examinations so that we can complete our exams before winter, as results are expected during that season. Many students also participate in coaching sessions throughout the winter." On September 14, Education Minister Sakina Itoo acknowledged the instructional time lost this year due to various circumstances. "Schools were closed due to war-like conditions, followed by severe flooding in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir," she said. Itoo said these disruptions have impacted the academic curriculum and that the government is seeking recommendations from all stakeholders, including parents, students, and the public, to address the issue. Meanwhile, JKBOSE has revised the schedule for online examination form submissions for the 10th Annual Regular Examination for the October-November 2025 session. Eligible students from the winter zone areas of Jammu Division, including District Leh, can now submit their forms from September 16 to 19, 2025.
