Anantnag, Dec 28: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), organized a Gram Panchayat Sensitization Programme at Khanabal here, covering six blocks (Anantnag, Dachnipora, Qazigund, Achhabal, Khoripora, and Bijbehra). The program, as per the BIS statement, was aimed at educating Sarpanches, Panchas and Panchayat Samiti members about the significance of BIS standards in their routine life.
Under the guidance of the Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, the program witnessed the participation of 32 Sarpanches, Panchas, and Panchayat Samiti Members. Informational files, pamphlets, and calendars about the development of BIS standards were distributed among the participants.
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO, provided a welcome address and an overview of BIS’s role, emphasizing the importance of standards in Gram Panchayats. He highlighted BIS as the quality ecosystem of the country, ensuring the quality, safety, and performance of products and services through Conformity Assessment Schemes.
During the program, Mehak Rasool, BIS Resource Person, presented a detailed overview of standardization, focusing on Indian standards related to daily life, ISI Mark Certification, and Laboratory facilities to support certification. Participants were briefed on the significance of standards in procuring quality goods for development activities or personal needs.
A demonstration of the ‘BIS Care App’ was conducted, allowing participants to validate the authenticity of various products. Ms. Rasool also explained the process of verifying the authenticity of genuine ISI Mark and Hallmarking through the BIS Care App.
The program was coordinated by District Legal Metrological Officer Anantnag, Muzzfar Wani, who expressed gratitude to BIS for conducting the program and anticipated that it would contribute to bringing standardization to the grassroots level.
