NEW DELHI, JUNE 11: Union Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took charge of India’s Home Ministry for the second consecutive term under the Modi 3.0 Cabinet, asserting the new government will take its efforts for the country’s “security to the next level and build Bharat as a bulwark against terrorism, insurgency, and naxalism.”
Shah, 59, who has been holding the portfolio since 2019, has returned to the Modi 3.0 government in the same capacity.
In his post on ‘X’ ShriAmit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister ShriNarendraModi, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will remain committed to the security of the nation and its people, as it always has been. Union Home Minister said that Modi 3.0 will take its efforts for India’s security to the next level and build Bharat as a bulwark against terrorism, insurgency, and naxalism.
Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tributes to martyred police personnel at National Police memorial. He said that remembering the martyrs of our police forces who laid down their lives guarding the honor of the nation and whose saga of sacrifice immortalised the fervour of patriotism forever.
Amit Shah, a trusted confidante of Prime Minister Modi, achieved a remarkable victory in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar during the 2024 LokSabha elections, winning by an astounding margin of 744,716 votes. Shah secured an impressive total of 1,010,972 votes, decisively defeating Congress’ Sonal Patel, who garnered 266,256 votes. He has also retained his other portfolio in the Ministry of Cooperation.
Under Shah’s leadership, the immediate challenge for the Centre and the Ministry of Home Affairs is to ensure the conduct of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and restore its statehood, which was converted into a Union Territory five years ago.
Another major challenge involves implementing the BharatiyaNyayaSanhita 2023, BharatiyaNagarikSurakshaSanhita 2023, and BharatiyaSakshyaAdhiniyam 2023. These new laws, set to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, were introduced by Shah in Parliament in 2023 and are scheduled to take effect on July 1.
Alongside 59-year-old Shah, Mr NityanandRai, who served as Minister of State (MoS) for Home in the previous administration, has also resumed his role in the government.
Rai took charge as MoS Home a few minutes after Shah. Telangana MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the former president of the BJP’s Telangana unit, will serve as the second MoS in the Ministry, replacing Ajay Kumar, who lost the LokSabha election from Uttar Pradesh’s Kheri. Mr Bandi will take charge of his office in a few days.Inputs from Agencies
