Srinagar, June 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and other dignitaries, paid tribute to the courageous police personnel of Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to the region.
On the second day of his visit, the Union Home minister laid the foundation stone for the first martyr memorial, ‘Balidan Stambh,’ at Pratap Park in Srinagar. The Home Minister also met with the families of the martyrs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, presenting them with appointment letters as a token of respect and support.
Highlighting the indomitable courage and bravery of the region, Home Minister Shah stated, “Jammu and Kashmir has been the land of brave hearts who exemplify the valor of heroes like Chiranjeevi. The foundation stone of the ‘Sacrifice pillar’ at Pratap Park in Srinagar will immortalize the memory of these martyrs and inspire patriotism among the youth.”
Expressing reverence for the sacrifice of the Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism, Shah emphasized their contribution to the spirit of Kashmir and its people.
During his visit, Home Minister Shah also visited the Karan Mahal, the residence of the last Yuvraj of Jammu and Kashmir, Karan Singh. He further interacted with select individuals at the Police Golf Course overlooking the picturesque Dal Lake before returning to Delhi.
As part of his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Shah inaugurated various projects in the Samba district. Among the notable events, he laid the foundation stone for the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and distributed the Golden Health card to beneficiaries, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility.
Addressing a public meeting in Jammu, the Union Minister expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election in 2024, predicting a government formation with over 300 seats.
Shah’s itinerary also included meeting the families of victims affected by the Rajouri terror attack. Additionally, he graced the Vitasta Mahotsav, organized by the Ministry of Culture, as the chief guest in Srinagar. Several distinguished personalities, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Home Secretary, and Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, were present on this occasion.
Stringent security measures were in place for the commemorative event, while businesses in and around Lal Chowk and adjacent areas operated normally, underscoring the importance of the solemn occasion.
With the foundation stone for the martyr memorial laid and the families of the fallen heroes acknowledged, the visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah served as a poignant reminder of the unwavering courage and sacrifice displayed by Jammu and Kashmir’s valiant police personnel.
