Srinagar, May 26: On Friday, a daring rescue operation was carried out to save many tourists who were stuck on shikaras on Dal Lake in Srinagar. The tragedy happened as heavy winds wrecked havoc on the lake for the second day in a row.
According to river police officers, a number of shikaraswere trapped in the middle of the lake as severe winds unexpectedly descended on the area. Surprisingly, “many shikara owners neglected to wear the necessary safety gear, further endangering the lives of their passengers.”
Similar circumstances occurred on Thursday when strong winds pummelling Dal Lake and left a number of shikaras and visitors stranded. All the people trapped in the dangerous scenario were safely rescued as soon as action was taken.
Expressing concern over the shikara owners’ disregard for safety measures, an official emphasized the inherent risks posed to the lives of the tourists. The need for proper safety gear cannot be overstated, as it plays a vital role in ensuring the security of everyone on board.
