SRINAGAR, JULY 11: The holy cave of Shri Amarnathji continues to attract thousands of devotees from across the country, as 18,137 pilgrims paid obeisance at the shrine on Tuesday. The total number of pilgrims who have visited the shrine since July 1 has reached 1,37,353.
The pilgrims, who include 12,459 men, 5,028 women, 470 children, 176 sadhus, one sadhvi and three transgenders, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by the administration along the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal. They also praised the hospitality of the local people who have been providing them with food, water and other facilities.
The administration has been proactive in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the treks and base camps under the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Teerath programmes. Special sanitation drives have been carried out on the yatra routes to collect waste and prevent pollution. The security forces have also been vigilant to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
