Srinagar, May 07: Authorities at Amar Singh College Srinagar have relieved the Head of the Department of Media Studies from academic responsibilities after allegations of harassment surfaced against him, officials said on Thursday.
The action followed protests by students on the college campus, demanding intervention by the administration over the alleged harassment of a female student.
According to Order No. ASC/26/1030 dated 07-05-2026 issued by the Principal’s office, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad Lone, HoD of the Media Studies Department, has been disassociated from all academic affairs of the department with immediate effect until the inquiry is completed.
The order stated that the decision was taken in response to the student demonstrations regarding the alleged incident.
The college administration has assigned the Proctorial Board to conduct a transparent and time bound inquiry into the matter. The committee has been directed to submit its report within two days.
Meanwhile, Prof. Nusrat Sayed has been asked to look after the affairs of the Media Studies Department till the completion of the investigation.
Principal of Amar Singh College, Prof. (Dr.) Aijaz Ahmad Hakak, said the institution has initiated due process and assured students that the inquiry would be conducted fairly and transparently.
Officials said further action would depend on the findings of the inquiry committee.
