Srinagar, Mar 10: In an exciting display of sportsmanship, Students XI of Kashmir University (KU) clinched victory against the Non-Teaching XI, emerging as the winner of the first-ever ‘Amad-e-Ramdhan Cricket Tournament’.
The match was played Saturday at the university’s Main Ground.
KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, commended both the teams for their exemplary performance while lauding KU’s Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES) in encouraging sports activities and infrastructure development within the university.
“This tournament exemplifies the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship and reflects the university’s commitment to holistic development,” Prof Khan said.
Prof Khan highlighted the significance of sports and other co-curricular activities in nurturing leadership qualities among participants.
The KU VC also presented trophies to the deserving teams.
KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal and Special Secretary to the KU VC, Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zari, were present on the occasion.
Director, DPES, KU, Dr Mandeep Singh, extended his gratitude to the dignitaries for their support in boosting the morale of the participants.
The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, KU, with Sakeena Akhtar and Amjad Qadir as the cricket coaches.
On the occasion, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan along with other dignitaries also unveiled the ‘Challengers Trophy’.
The ‘Challengers Trophy’ will be played in five different categories and will be the first of its kind, starting with cricket in coming days.
The initiative aims to engage youth in healthy lifestyles and deter them from societal vices and encourage a culture of sportsmanship and excellence, setting new benchmarks in the realm of sports.
