Qazigund, Mar 27: A State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bus overturned inside the Qazigund tunnel on Tuesday evening, injuring 17 passengers, including four children.
The accident occurred inside the Navyuga tunnel in Qazigund when the SRTC bus, traveling from Jammu to Srinagar, lost control and flipped over.
Officials at Emergency Hospital Qazigund said that all 17 injured passengers received initial treatment before being referred to GMC Anantnag for further medical care.
A health official from GMC Anantnag confirmed that one critically injured patient, identified as Sunil Kumar, had suffered a severe head injury, was hemodynamically unstable, and had to be intubated before being referred to SKIMS.
He said that two other patients, diagnosed with hemoperitoneum, underwent surgery and were shifted to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The remaining 14 patients were admitted to Block A at GMC Anantnag, where they were kept under observation and treatment. As of now, all 14 were reported to have been in stable condition.

Despite severe injuries, no lives were lost, thanks to the hospital’s well-coordinated trauma response. Emergency surgeries were performed efficiently, and critical patients were stabilized in the newly opened Surgical ICU.

Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, praised the surgical, anesthesia, orthopedic, radiology, and allied teams for their commendable role in handling the mass casualty situation. She said that the advanced critical care unit has significantly strengthened emergency trauma care at the hospital.
“The newly opened Surgical ICU has played a crucial role in saving lives,” she added.
