Srinagar, Feb 12: Health employees at a government hospital in Keran, Kupwara, delivered a baby while coordinating with the gynecologist over a WhatsApp call On Sunday.
The successful attempt was akin to recreating a similar movie scene of Amir Khan blockbuster movie 3 Idiots.
A health official told Rising Kashmir, On Friday, a woman from Mandian, Keran, complained of labour pain and was taken to a nearby PHC center. Where the on-duty doctors directed her to visit SDH Kupwara for delivery. However, due to heavy snowfall in the area for many days, the road leading to Kupwara was blocked.
The doctors at this NTPHC brought the matter to the attention of BMO Kralpora, who contacted his senior officials, and, despite hectic efforts to arrange a chopper service to take her to Kupwara, due to heavy snowfall, the chopper service was made available.
When Block Medical Officer Kralpora Dr. Mir Shafeeq did not see any hope for shifting the patient from there due to heavy snowfall, he asked the medical staff posted in Karen to come on a Whatsapp call to save the patient’s life, after which he called PHC Kralpora on a DTS app.
The gynecologist posted in PHC Kralpora guided the doctor and paramedical staff in Karen to deliver the baby successfully.
Dr, Shfeeq said that their priority was to save the patient, and there was no option left other than to guide the staff through a whatsapp call, as we prefer such deliveries to be held in the sub-district hospital in Kupwara. “I was in touch with the staff continuously, till they succeeded, adding working in far-flung areas is a different experience and needs courage and dedication,” he added.
However, the doctor said that, by the grace of almighty Allah, the delivery was conducted successfully, and both the baby and mother were doing well.
