Srinagar, Jan 12: In a remarkable achievement, Alishba Jeelani, a student from DPS Srinagar, clinched a bronze medal in the intense and multifaceted martial art of Pencak Silat at the Beach Games 2024 held in Diu from January 4th to January 11. Pencak Silat, known for its comprehensive fighting techniques encompassing strikes, grappling, throwing, and weaponry, witnessed Alishba’s prowess in every facet of the discipline.
Alishba played a pivotal role as a member of the triumphant Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) team, contributing to the team’s overall success with a total of 3 gold and 5 bronze medals. The competition showcased the diversity of Pencak Silat, with numerous styles and schools emphasizing strikes, joint manipulation, weaponry, or a combination of these elements.
Expressing pride in Alishba’s accomplishment, Principal Shafaq Afshan conveyed, “We are delighted that Alishba has etched her name in a long chain of excellence in sports established by school alumnae over the years. We wish her many more such victories in years to come.”
