Srinagar, April 01: Kashmir has been marred by a distressing surge in drowning incidents over the past 14 months, necessitating immediate action to avert further tragedies.
Data disclosed by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) department reveals a staggering total of 49 drowning incidents reported in the Kashmir Valley from January 01, 2023, to March 06, 2024.
Of these incidents, the bodies of 35 victims were recovered, while the fate of nine individuals remains unknown.
SDRF data indicates that Srinagar recorded the highest number of casualties, with 19 drowning incidents reported followed b Baramulla with 11 incidents, while other districts also reported varying numbers of cases.
The detailed accounts of these incidents paint a somber picture of lives lost to the unforgiving waters of rivers and canals across the valley. Victims hail from diverse backgrounds and regions within Kashmir, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of these tragedies.
