Srinagar, June 27: A newly recruited terrorist of Al-Badr was killed in a joint operation of security forces in Hawoora village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday morning.
The slain terrorist was identified by police as Adil Majeed Lone son of Abdul Majeed Lone resident of Akbarabad Hawoora, Kulgam.
A police official said following specific input regarding the presence of a terrorist in Hawoora area of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by J&K Police, Army (1st RR), and CRPF (18 Bn) on Monday night.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, in which one J&K police personnel got injured and was subsequently shifted to hospital for treatment,” he said.
Following this the hiding terrorist was also given an opportunity to surrender, however, he kept on firing on the joint forces. The fire was effectively retaliated, leading to an encounter, he said.
During the night-long encounter, a local terrorist linked with the proscribed terrorist outfit Al-Badr was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one Pistol with live ammunition and a Grenade were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the police official said.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area at the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any, the police official said.
Regarding the condition of an injured cop, he said during the initial exchange of fire, the cop received minor injuries and was hospitalized. The condition of police cop is stable and is out of danger, he added.
Meanwhile, the slain terrorist had recorded a video moments before his death. It went viral on social media platforms, in which he can be narrating how he was cornered by the security forces.
In the past two weeks, 12 terrorists have been killed after troops foiled three infiltration attempts along the LoC in Machil, Keran, and Poonch sectors in the region.
