Srinagar, Jul 16: The Akbar Jaipuri Memorial Committee has expressed heartfelt condolences on the passing of Shahid Budgami—an eminent literary and cultural icon of Kashmir and a cherished associate of Syed Akbar Jaipuri.In a statement issued here, the committee said Budgami Sahab was a renowned poet, author, and lyricist whose work significantly enriched Kashmiri and Urdu literature over the decades. “His seminal contribution, Kashri Marsi Hund Tawareekh, traced the history of Marsiya poetry in Kashmir, preserving a tradition deeply rooted in our community’s cultural fabric. Through his home, Hussain Manzil, he hosted and conducted Hussaini Mushairas with profound faith, literary discipline, and grace,” it said.The Jaipuri family recalled his warm calls on the landline to recite his poetry to Akbar Jaipuri Sahab—a bond characterised by mutual literary affection and shared spiritual vision. His presence, both as a poet and a compassionate soul, will be profoundly missed, the statement said. “He loved Jaipuri Sahab, and we loved him. May his memory continue to inspire generations to come.”
