Poonch, Sept 08: In a landmark step towards strengthening higher education in border areas, MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, today laid the foundation stone of the much-awaited Arts & Humanities Block at Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch. The project, with an estimated cost of INR 2.50 crores, is expected to significantly boost the educational infrastructure of the region.
The ceremony witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, with Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh, XEN PWD, senior officials, faculty members, and a large number of students in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Jan reaffirmed his commitment to modernising educational facilities, assuring that the new block would be equipped with smart classrooms, hi-tech laboratories, and auditoriums of metropolitan standards. He underscored the college’s pivotal role in providing quality education to students from remote and border villages, promising to continue extending every possible support.
Recalling his visit during the aftermath of cross-border shelling on May 7–8, 2025, the MLA noted that he had pledged to assist in rebuilding and upgrading facilities. “The promise I made to the students and faculty will be fulfilled. Funds for smart classrooms and modern facilities will be sanctioned in the coming days,” he assured.
Lauding the institution’s achievements, MLA Jan highlighted the college’s NAAC “A” Grade accreditation, academic excellence, sports victories, and cultural accolades. He further announced the establishment of a modern gymnasium, directing immediate preparation of its DPR.
