Srinagar, Dec 12: Marking a significant milestone, the Central government informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that 92% of the civil construction for AIIMS Jammu and 42% for AIIMS Awantipora has been successfully completed.
In a written reply to a query, a copy of which was accessed by Rising Kashmir, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, revealed that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir had approved the establishment of two All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), one in Vijaypur, Jammu, and another in Awantipora, Kashmir, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY).
“92% of civil construction work of AIIMS, Vijaypur, Jammu has been completed. 1450 faculty/non-faculty posts have been sanctioned for AIIMS, Vijaypur, out of which 549 have been filled up. One MRI machine has been delivered at AIIMS Vijaypur,” the reply stated.
Regarding AIIMS Awantipora, the minister informed the Rajya Sabha that 44% of civil construction work has been completed.
Once these super-specialty hospitals are completed, they are expected to significantly benefit the common man, bringing about a transformative shift in healthcare facilities.
Dr. Bharati also provided updates on the establishment of new medical colleges, stating that under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, seven new medical colleges have been approved at Doda, Kathua, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla, Handwara, and Udhampur. All of these medical colleges are functional, with the responsibility of planning, execution, and commissioning, along with staff recruitment, lying with the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, trauma care facilities have been approved under the National Programme for Prevention and Management of Trauma and Burns Injuries for four hospitals, including MMAM District Hospital, Anantnag, Trauma Hospital, Ramban, Doda, Government District Hospital, Udhampur, and District Hospital, Kupwara.
It was also noted that the establishment of five Medicities, including two in Jammu, two in Pulwama, and one in Srinagar, has received approval from the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
