Adequate security arrangements in place
Srinagar, June 13:Security has been intensified across Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir as a precautionary measure ahead of Prime Minister NarendraModi’s visit to Srinagar on June 20 to mark International Yoga Day, officials said.
A police officer at Police Headquarters told Rising Kashmir that security has been reinforced in Srinagar and adjacent areas in preparation for the PM’s visit.
“A high-level meeting regarding PM Modi’s security arrangements was held in Srinagar, attended by heads of various agencies. Some SOPs have been formulated for arrangements and they will be accordingly implemented until June 20,” he said.
Additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at vital spots, including Airport Road to SKICC. CCTV surveillance, checkpoints, and frisking points have been established to address security concerns.
The officer mentioned that Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel will be stationed in the city to monitor any suspicious activities. J&K Police Commandos, along with CRPF personnel, have been positioned around the SKICC to pre-empt any untoward incidents.
“Nakas (checkpoints) and checking points will continue to operate along the major highways in the Valley as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. Vehicles entering Kashmir at Qazigund are being frisked. Special teams have been deputed at vital junctions to thwart any incidents. We are on alert,” he said.
In Srinagar, police and paramilitary forces have set up barricades at many places and other major towns to search vehicles. As part of the security measures for the PM’s visit, tight security has been deployed around SKICC along the Dal Lake banks.
Prime Minister NarendraModi will visit Srinagar on June 20 and take part in the Yoga Day event on June 21. The PM will arrive in Kashmir on June 20 and will stay for the night. The next morning, he will participate in Yoga.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has been put on high alert to prepare for the PM’s visit. The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has been directed to oversee the arrangements for the Yoga Day event.
A JKSC Official said that preparations for the visit have begun. We have asked Yoga teams and instructors to prepare for the big event. We are on our toes.
“We have instructed various sports wings to gather 3,000 sportsmen to participate in the mega event,” he said, adding that special sessions are being held to train the athletes in Srinagar.
